PUDUCHERRY: A.S.Khan, belonging to the 1977 batch of Indian Police Service, on Wednesday took charge as Director-General of Police (DGP) Puducherry. He would be the first police officer to hold the post of DGP after the Inspector General post was upgraded recently.
Mr. Kahn was received at the DGP’s office by Deputy Inspector-General of Police S. Vasudeva Rao and Senior Superintendent of Police Chhaya Sharma.
He later inspected a guard of honour.
After assuming office, he called on Chief Minister N. Rangasamy and Chief Secretary Rakesh Behari.
Mr. Khan had a brief stint during the early 1980s in Puducherry as Commandant of Pondicherry Armed Police.
