Puducherry (PTI): The AIADMK on Sunday demanded enforcement of the National Security Act (NSA) in the Union Territory in view of `unchecked' rise in number of heinous crimes and also incidents of bomb blasts, resulting in the death of innocent people.
Party secretary A Anbalgan MLA, told reporters here that it was a matter of concern that the police department was reeling under 'groupism' and ego clashes among high ranking officials, which was causing hardship to the people and disrupting maintenance of law and order.
On the bomb blast in his constituency Uppalam yesterday, which killed a boy and injured three of his friends, he said it could have been averted had the police been alert after a similar blast at a house in Davidpet a few hours earlier
He demanded that the government pay a solatium of Rs 10 lakh to the parents of the boy who died and Rs three lakh each to the injured boys, now undergoing treatment at the government general hospital here.
It was indeed mind boggling that the chief minister was not holding periodic meetings with top police officials to review law and order situation, Anbalagan said.
He said the Chief Minister was adopting an 'unethical' practice of holding meetings to work out a compromise between police officials and those having complaints against them. This forced police personnel to tender apologies at the meetings, "which will only demoralise the police force," he said.
