CHENNAI: MDMK headquarters secretary KS Radhakrishanan has petitioned the State Government to extend the kind of assistance given to the recently held Chennai Sangamam to a festival of folk arts, which a cultural organisation headed by him proposes to organise.
In a letter to the State Chief Secretary and the Tourism and Culture Secretary, Radhakrishnan said the organisation ‘Pothigai-Porunai-Karisal’ proposed to organise a two-day festival of Tamil folk art forms in the last week of July, to be inaugurated by MDMK general secretary Vaiko.
Pointing out that the State Government had extended financial assistance for the conduct of ‘Chennai Sangamam,’ coordinated by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi’s daughter Kanimozhi, he requested the government to extend similar assistance to this festival also.
He also requested the State to allot the Rajarathinam Stadium in Egmore for two days for holding the festival.
Radhakrishnan also said in the letter that he proposed to use the Right to Information Act to obtain the details of the financial assistance granted to Chennai Sangamam by the State.
