PUDUCHERRY: The first children's park at Karuvadikuppam being built at a cost of Rs. 13 lakh would be opened in the next two weeks.
The 800-square metre play area will have a giant Simba, the mischievous and adventurous character in the animated movie, `The Lion King,' made in gypsum cement. Below Simba, flows a small stream. The playthings include a seesaw, a slide, a swing, a merry-go-round and a Lillie pond.
"We will be opening more such parks. A science park is being planned in the town," M.O.H.F Shahjahan, told The Hindu . It will be open between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m., he said.
Construction work on a park at Vallalar Salai at Rainbow Nagar at a cost of Rs 36 lakh would be completed in six months.
Land filling work was in an advanced stage and children's play equipment worth Rs 10 lakh have been purchased, according to P. Devaraj, Deputy Conservator of Forests.
Three children's park are planned at Bharathidhasan Nagar, Jaya Nagar and Reddiyarpalayam.
